Today's #flashfiction #MiningLove

“Go on ahead.”
Gandalf the Grey* #quote

My friend Jessica is coming over this Friday. Mom's excited for it too as she just received the Japanese version of one of her books. Jessica is getting a degree in Japanese so she can read some of the book to Mom and thus we shall learn what the translated book is like. Anyway onto the flash fiction!

Mining Love

Ian wished he flew. Flew as one of the Bow Cupids shooting arrows and marking sites. But no, he worked on the second part of the process. People cared about the Bow Cupids. When a Bow Cupid hit two people and bound them that's when he and the Mining Cupids went to work.
They toiled away in the souls and minds of people, digging through every thought, good, bad and otherwise until they unearthed the love in the core of the person's hearts. Then they heaved it up to the surface of the mind so that the people may bond.
Ian jammed his shovel through the ore of thoughts and pulled it out in chunks, all the while finding, sorting and pulling the unbreakable chains that bonded them together. Hundreds of Mining Cupids could be working on a single person depending on the situation. Even if eventually the ore became to heavy to move or the chains binding the thoughts and feelings of the person together too strong.
Today Ian fought against a strong unrequited love. The other miners managed to get one end to complete their mining, but the person Ian worked on compulsively devoted themselves to their studies. Their soul wrapped up in it's own thoughts and anything but human connection. The ore of the woman's mind a beautiful collection jewels of enlightenment and knowledge. However the jewels were so gargantuan and bound by such massive chains that Ian and his entire crew couldn't move them.
“We've been at this for days.” Ian grumbled. Normally the miners worked so well together that they didn't even feel a need to speak, but the unstoppable obstacle of this woman's mind started to throw them into disarray. After Ian spoke, more miners began complaining and work stopped. Though they weren't accomplishing anything.
After about two hours of everyone complaining Ian took one of the bombs they used for destroying hate. “I've had it!” He tossed it at the knowledge and enlightenment in the woman's mind and blasted it apart. The miners felt some relief, but shock and fear overwhelmed it as they knew Ian broke a sacred rule by destroying part of a person's mind. Massive delegation happens before anyone even cracks something, things are to be moved, not obliterated!

The miners rushed so they may at least produce results and pulled the love out of the woman's heart. She fell in love and became quite happy, but due to Ian's work, she paid the price of lost wisdom. Perhaps with time there would have been both wisdom and love, but that is to be seen with the target of a Bow Cupid.
