“I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain...”
Sharknado* #quote
Today I watched Sharknado with my Mom...it was a “magical” movie
to say the least. Anyway onto the flash fiction!
The Divine Winds
Captain Ganzorig controlled one of the largest ships of the mongol
fleet. In the Gregorgian calendar, one quite unfamiliar to him, the
year would have been 1281. The would be his second “voyage” to
the Land Of The Rising Sun. But the type of “voyage” Mongols of
his time took were invasions. The first invasion of Japan in 1274
failed, but this time he knew he would succeed. He knew a storm would
not strike the fleet again. He would not be mocked for surviving such
a calamity and seeing monsters within it. What man wouldn't see
monsters in a storm that destroyed half an army?
Despite the mockery they put him back to lead. The commanders of the
Mongols knew of Captain Ganzorig's skill and intelligence on the
battlefield so they dismissed his hallucination and allowed him on
the second invasion. For the sake of conquest they agreed with his
reasons that any man would see monsters in such a terrifying storm.
The fleet neared Japan, it's massive size would guarantee victory.
The Japanese would crumble before Mongol might. Then the wind picked
up and cut through the water like swords through flesh, violently and
with a painful screaming sound. The screaming noise came from high
pitched whistle of the rushing wind. As the wind slammed against the
ships and the water more the noise went from whistles to thuds and
bangs like massive hands the size of houses slamming drums.
The waves grew higher and higher and started swallowing ships all
around Captain Ganzorig. His well trained crew managed to follow
protocol while hiding their fear. The captain saw the same monsters
from the last storm among the gargantuan waves.
Tall, green and big-headed, they looked back at Ganzorig through the
window of their round, disc-shaped craft. In the next second they
vanished in a flash of light. Ganzorig didn't know it, but after
visiting the Mongols the “monsters” he saw would be going to the
future to visit some people called the British as they warred with
the Americans.
Author Comment: Ganzorig means “steel courage” in Mongolian, I
liked it so when I looked up Mongolian names it's the one I picked.
