“The world
will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood
against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can
bleed.”
March of the

Having people
over today(good old Saturdays) so I'm worked on the story early.
Enjoy!
Applying For
Evil
Even evil has
job networking. It's how supervillains weed out superhero spies among
their minions. At least those villains who chose to join the
organizations that do the applications. It's an odd system really and
many villains to keep their plans secret avoid the places. But those
guys who are already really well known and are the guys with
giant fortresses or their own micronations are the people who join.
The kind of villains who's names are common vocabulary. Guys like
Lord Zauyiz.
Zauyiz's
fortress floats high over the Atlantic with defensive technology that
makes every military across the globe jealous. Force fields of some
strange sort have made it resistant to nuclear weapons. It has been
breached using strange methods such a teleporters, but Lord Zauyiz
put up a counter after every instance and with each breach the
superheroes or agents that tried never saw the entire fortress.
And my hope is
to work for him. Lord Zauyiz hires at an minion job networking place
to get some non-superpowered minions that have had background checks
to avoid moles. Naturally a villain would also want minions that
don't have superpowers, though over the years Lord Zauyiz has
recruited many people with superpowers to be his underlings.
He is regarded
as one of the largest threat supervillains out there, if not the
largest. He is a monster alien lord from another dimension who can
control time and space. His plans are frequent. They can be elaborate
or simple. His motives are unclear so predicting him can be
impossible. There have been villains who have attacked the planet
with greater powers but Lord Zauyiz is classified as a greater threat
because of his intelligence and inability to ever be truly defeated.
If he did the same plan as another villain he would do it better,
scarier, and cause more damage even if they both failed in the end.
One of the reasons people fear becoming his minions as superheroes
are willing to make you “acceptable losses” even more because of
the threat he poses. He's the one that makes the good superheroes
bend the rules and break their moral codes.
But the pay is
incredible! A million dollars a year! I've hit a rough patch and he
can't be that scary. I'll hit that job interview. What supervillain
wouldn't love a disbarred lawyer? I conned charities!
I actually
rambled about that for a good while on the “why are you evil”
section of the generic job application handed out while I've been
sitting in front of the door for the interview. Hard to believe the
supervillain is behind that door. It's a simple wooden door. Vanilla
and plain. Doesn't look evil or elaborate. Makes waiting for the
interview also feel like waiting for any other. Maybe he's not as
scary as people think. At least if you're not a superhero.
The door then
swung open and a large six foot tall man ran out of the room. Tears
ran down his face. Sweat covered him all over. He wore a fancier suit
than mine. He ran up to me and grabbed me. He held me up and looked
me in the eyes.
“Don't go in
there! He has a machine that probes your mind! It burns! It's pure
pain! You relive every moment of your life! Good and bad! In a single
instant to him but in slow motion to you! The death of my mother! He
needs to know everything! The agony! Run!” The man continued to cry
as he dropped me and ran out of the room. The other job applicants
stared.
Maybe I'll
apply to go work for Doctor Metalmind
