Today's #flashfiction #FriendStreaming

“The pen is mightier than the sword.”
Genghis Khan* #quote

Today I practiced more of my drawing. Coming along good. Also good is that seizures have been down despite me having a busy weekend and usually they spike after I do anything. Anyway onto the flash fiction!

Friend Streaming

2013 files like movies are streamed to people to enjoy. Data sent from one place to another shoooommmm...isn't that amazing? Music too and so much more. Marvelous technology isn't it?
Fast forward to the year 3000 and other things are streamed. One of the most noteworthy things are friends. Not the fleshy ones from school. Y'know the standard human beings that come from other human beings. Booorrrinnnggg...
These are artificial intelligences with engineered personalities for maximum enjoyment. Friends On Demand is a service with massive subscription. It's got some of the best programmed AI's out there. Here are a few:
Jill and Joe: A boy and girl, both amazingly charismatic and can be set to any any age. They can really be by your side whenever you need them, support you in times of need, be good listeners, yet give good speeches to really bring you to your senses. Practically a psychotherapist in a box.
Wally: Loves sports and can talk about them all day with you.
Hanna: Loves video games and is just as enthusiastic about them as Wally is about sports.
Ronald: A passionate musician who is into many sorts of music. There are many different AI's into different kinds of music and different combinations.
And list goes on with different AI's into different hobbies with different looks, sexes, races, every combination the company could think of, along with ones that mirror famous people historical and celebrities.
And the heart of it all was an amazing program linked to the massive computing power of that day and age that could simulate the shadow of biology in the brain and emotion. Could they feel? Debatable. Many of the scientists at the company as they kept developing the program made the programs start becoming more and more part of a mechanical-electronic brain. But all had been forced to sign nondisclosure agreements about what went on in the company labs. The executives did not want it coming out that Friends On Demand could possibly be sentient and feeling.
Because that meant as soon as the Internet streaming service lagged and crashed, manslaughter to murder had happened.
