“The captain goes down with his ship.”
Captain Crunch* #quote
Today I went to one of my card game things. I played some card games
and it was fun. I assume that Pokemon, Yu-gi-Oh, Magic, and all them
other Trading Card Games I'm playing are at least a little bit
different from Poker. Anyway onto the flash fiction!
The Contestant And His Show
In the future a special new kind of music show began. A game show.
The contestant picked by lottery. After all to be able to sing for a
grand prize of well, an absurd amount of money in a currency yet to
be invented, is too much to simply sign up for.
The contestant for tonight's show stood on a stage in a massive
theater with a crowd watching. The crowd would rate the constant as
he sang. Behind him was a massive screen that displayed a number. His
“approval rating”. It started at 50 points at the start of the
song and if it reached 100 he would win. If it dropped to zero he
would lose.
The host patted middle aged family-man James on his fancy suit and
told him to start to sing. James already sweat. He was only average
at singing. Like some lotteries of the past the lottery of this show
was government run. He didn't chose to be selected for the game. But
he sang. To his joy the approval rating went up. He managed to put a
lot of feeling into the song and hit the notes good. The song the
studio made him sing by lucky chance came from his youth and a bit of
nostalgia helped him along. Plus the music the studio provided
managed to get him in tune.
His approval rating reached ninety. Then he forgot a lyric. He
stumbled for words, got nervous and his voice cracked like a young
boys. He thought of his family before the prize money before his
approval rating sank to zero.
That's when a trapdoor beneath the stage opened up and he fell into
a pit. The audience could hear his screens and they, along with those
watching at home were amused. If he ran earlier he would have been
shot along with his family. At least only he died in the acid pit
under the stage. The next constant would take the stage after the
commercial break.
