Today's #Scifi #fantasy short story #TheOtherWorldWizards

Well bro came over today and he's staying for the weekend. He's a materials engineer with a PhD in SCIENCE!(Well, a PhD in Materials Engineering, which pretty much requires him to know tons of stuff about physics anyways.) I discussed my logic problem with physics(or rather the laws of physics) that I talked about a few days ago in my blog because he knows the physics. The logic problem was where the laws of physics came from and how they did things for “free”.(Why do they happen? How do they do what they do?) I really talked about it in the comment of one of my stories in much more detail. That story is here: http://langdonflashfictions.blogspot.com/2012/07/todays-scifi-fantasy-short-story_04.html The story itself just uses scientists wondering where the laws of physics come from as a plot point, I talk about it in the comment. Now onto today's flash fiction which actually doesn't have anything to do with that, but is still quite interesting.

The Other World Wizards

Jacob feared for his life. The wizards from the other world were coming to his village. He was next. His family was next. Village after village was razed to the ground by them in fire. Or frozen. Or turned to stone. Or sent to a dark dimension. Or turned to insects waiting to be devoured by birds or whatever else lie above them on the food chain.
And to think these wizards were children, one boy and one girl, brother and sister.
He saw two shadows and looked up. They belonged to the wizard children. They were flying in the smiling. Their smiles were large and wicked. Filled with a twisted joy. Jacob could tell they were planning what they would do to the village. The children then whispered to each other. They raised their hands. They began laughing. Jacob looked around. Were there dragons? Were they lighting things on fire? Were people being frozen? Had they laid down a curse. He then saw an immense shadow and looked up once more.
The children had summoned a meteor.
Jacob's terror made the moments of the meteor's decent slow but when it finally hit the ground the villages destruction was quick. The children protected themselves with magic shields so they had the joy of safely watching the rubble fly.
And then the children took off their virtual reality helmets and their suits shortly afterwards.
“Well that was realistic, it's almost like the AI actually feels to get all those responses just right.” The brother of the wizard children said.
The sister of the wizard children said, “You know that's just a stupid rumor. It's just a video game. People just made that up to mess with the company that made the game.”
The brother responded, “Yeah, yeah. Anyway want to save the world next time? With how realistic the AI it's much harder and more satisfying to win by being a peacekeeper. Gotta go with the challenge. Terror bringing got boring. No challenge.”
“You're right.” She said. “They give you magic powers in the game and bringing peace to the all the kingdoms is still hard! That's probably why we do it more than bringing terror. We should be the good guys  next.”
The brother said. “Yeah, being the good guy is much harder than being evil, but it is more satisfying.”
